Building an original human-car wash complete with sprayers and suds, is the challenge of Dale Moore (right) and Scott Dinderman, volunteers preparing for the first annual water obstacle run/walk called Flood the Run. Dale is a civil engineer and retired vice president of Shive-Hattery and Scott is owner of Fleming’s Irrigation. In addition to the car wash, a 100 foot giant water slide will be mounted on the race course in Ellis Park. Determining how that will function is also a task for the race team led by Courtney Ball, former co-director of Matthew 25.
Flood the Run will be held on Saturday morning, August 9, in the Ellis Park neighborhood as a family-friendly fundraiser for Matthew 25 & The Salvation Army – Cedar Rapids, IAo. “Given the popularity of obstacle courses, we wanted to create a totally new venue for family fun in Cedar Rapids – one that would combine water with a run/walk,” said Matthew 25’s Neighborhood Investment Coordinator, Jerry Oakland. A “sniper zone” and a fire truck’s hose will insure all participants get wet along the 2.6 mile course.
Veridian Credit Union is the presenting sponsor for Flood the Run. For registration information, go to www.crfloodtherun.com.
